Who you are and location:
Mic Rushen, Solva, SW Wales.

Your Occupation:
Artist/Icelandic horse breeder/livery owner
How long have you been riding:
As long as I can remember, starting with pony rides on the beach!

How you became interested and involved with Icelandic Horses:
I kept my Irish Hunter and Gypsy Cob at livery on the same farm as Jackie Elias (who was one of the IHSGB founder members), having got to know Icelandic’s in her husband’s home country, Belgium. We became friends, I looked after (and rode) her Icelandic when she was away – and got hooked.

Your Horses-Past and Present:
Too many to mention! First Icelandic – Arvakur from Rickarton (Sox), an ex-trekking horse who came barely knowing how to tölt and went on to win the 4.1 at the BCs as well as giving me years of happy hacking, doing displays, driving, endurance, you name it he could do it. Lotning frá Þingeryrum, who took me to the finals at MEC, and to a couple of WCs. Sölvi frá Hemlu, a complicated but talented chap, who narrowly missed getting into a B final in T2 at the WCs. Kalsi frá Litla-Dal, my lovely big grey who taught me (and many others) all about riding flying pace. Skessa frá Bakkakoti, my beloved and much-missed grey mare. Bob (Klerkur frá Kirkjulandi), only just retired at 29. My current girl, Maistjarna from Solva (daughter of Bob!), who is helping me regain my riding confidence. And of course, all the other fab horses I’ve been lucky enough to own or take care of over nearly 40 years with Icelandic’s.
What you most enjoy doing with your horses:
Hanging out with them, watching herd behaviour, hacking. Hopefully some displays and courses again as I get my riding confidence back.

What other interests you have (assuming there is time left in your life)
Needle-felting and drawing animals of all sorts. Reading. Singing in a couple of choirs. Listening to music…classical, pop, folk, heavy metal, rock – anything goes!
