New: The IHSGB Leisure Group.
This is an exciting opportunity for members to volunteer and join the new IHSGB Leisure group.
Throughout the UK we have a number of Icelandic horse owners that call themselves ‘Leisure Riders’. Many take part in a wide range of activities across various disciplines.Over the past few years we have developed and increased the opportunities for members to participate remotely or to meet up with other Icelandic owners.
Our association with FEIF makes Leisure riders the largest group of riders across the World, within the membership of our 23 FEIF member associations. FEIF states that; ‘’Any rider on an Icelandic horse is an ambassador for the entire community.’’
Even though every country has its own rules and regulations related to the keeping and riding of horses, the Leisure Department’s role in FEIF is to focus on the individual relationship between rider and horse. It provides a platform for all national departments (that includes us), encouraging improved relationships between riders and horses through education, ambassadorship, rides and fun. This is the foundation of our leisure activities.
What are the benefits of volunteering?
Volunteering for a UK charity can offer numerous benefits, including enhanced well-being, improved/new skills, a sense of purpose and connection. It can also positively impact mental and physical health, as well as boost confidence and self-esteem. You will be able to use existing skills and knowledge to benefit the IHSGB and its membership.

-Are you able to enthuse people to “join in” and experience the fun and laughter we enjoy through our membership?
-Can you help organise activities, opportunities and events for our members (and on occasions potential members)?
-Some activities will require monitoring and recording, for potential awards.
-Meetings will be held regularly (weekday evenings). This is a commitment.
-Being a member of the Leisure group will require a further time commitment for preparation of materials or monitoring of tasks.
-Do you have any skills/experiences that would support this role?
-There might be occasions when sensitive information is discussed, so it is important to understand that all discussions, communication and information shared between the members within the group (meetings, phone calls, emails, etc) are confidential. It is an advantage to have an awareness of safeguarding children, young & vulnerable adults.
