A new breeding evaluation has now been saved in WorldFengur, but all breeding shows were concluded in the first week of September. In the spring of 2025, it was decided to base the breeding evaluation on both breeding assessments and competition results in specific tests. These include tölt disciplines (T1, T3, T2, and T4), four-gait disciplines (V1, V2, and B-flokkur), five-gait disciplines (F1, F2, and A-flokkur), and pace disciplines (250-meter pace, 100-meter pace, and gæðingaskeið). Competition results from international events (World Ranking) in adult classes, major gæðingakeppni tournaments, and pace disciplines are utilized.
A total of 2,488 breeding assessments were completed this year across eight countries, and approximately 16,000 competition scores were added. The data supporting this year’s breeding evaluation consists of over 40,000 breeding assessments, while the competition data includes more than 200,000 scores. It is therefore clear that the foundation of the breeding evaluation is very strong.
The mate selection program (Valparanaforritið) will also be updated shortly. This is a highly powerful tool that helps breeders select stallions for their mares. For instance, it allows breeders to monitor the relationship of prospective parents to ensure the offspring does not become too inbred. It also provides a breeding evaluation for the future offspring, as well as the probabilities for all possible coat colors. This is an incredibly valuable and interesting tool that is well worth exploring for all breeders.
