The IHSGB Leisure Awards (Four Award Levels to achieve). You can take part in these awards regardless of where you’re based in the UK. It’s not just for riders’, handlers using groundwork are also included.
Are you looking at ways to have fun and improve your bond with your horse, in or out of the saddle?
The Leisure Awards are for anyone who may want recognition for the knowledge and skills that you already have or to improve your horse knowledge and skills. It doesn’t matter what previous experience you have with horses, or if you are a beginner with your first horse. ∙ The Awards are available to members of The IHSGB. ∙ There are no age restrictions on any of the awards. ∙ You can work through each award at your own pace.
The Leisure Awards have four achievement levels, starting with Frum, moving up to Millistig, Háþróaður and finally Ítarlegri plús
- They are designed to recognise your knowledge, understanding and experiences.
- The subject areas have been selected to provide an overall background with a special emphasis on riding Icelandic horses. The theory behind each segment is presented through the use of questions. Some of the questions are repeated in the next higher level, as they are expanded upon.
- The goal of each level is; to be able to understand and use your knowledge to answer all of the questions and to successfully perform practical exercises. There is an option of riding (in the saddle) or Groundwork (In Hand).
The awards are achieved by completing an E-portfolio – an online style workbook –
∙You will be asked to answer questions and add photos as evidence of your completion. (Cutting and pasting is NOT acceptable). Videos can also be added by uploading to YouTube’ UNLISTED (therefore private) but you will need to add the link onto your portfolio.
